What to do when a project takes a different direction? Not 180° but a good 100° and a hundred meters leap in that new direction.

This happens in the real world all the time, and we may not have been exposed to it had we been attending one of those “let’s read a book and regurgitate its content for an exam” type of institutions.

Thankfully we get to experience this in the best possible atmosphere ever. Still at school, as students, and with an extensive network of support around us for when it happens.

Several times we have needed to remind ourselves that we are currently students. The pressure of real clients can be daunting; it is good to be reminded that as students, we are working with a vision-driven method on the exploration side of the innovation scale.

So what do we do? We put in the extra effort here and there when needed and run around like headless chickens. Well, at least for a little while. Then we have to sit down and see what we can actually do with our time and resources.

It takes some time to shift gears, but once we have, there is no stopping us. A group with such a diverse background and areas of expertise can only do one thing. We split up into smaller groups to cover twice as much ground, trusting implicitly that the other half of the group will do what is needed.

If there is ever a time just to try it all and take it to the limits, it is now. As students, with our support network of experts and our school’s administration (that can only be described as our own personal cheerleaders), there is little we can’t imagine getting through together.
